My New Favorite Snack...

Emerald Trail Mix Berry Blend is AAAAMMMAAZZZINNNGGG and only 120 calories per package. The trail mix includes a mix of walnuts and peanuts, yogurt raisins, granola and dried blueberries, strawberries and cranberries. This makes for the perfect blend of salty and sweet and is satisfying for a mid day snack. I just LOVE it!!

Healthy Wife, Healthy Life

It is week 2 of Healthy Wife, Healthy Life.

I feel so much better after just one week. I have a lot more energy which I give a lot of credit to the amount of water I have been drinking and my work out routine. My work out routine has given my metabolism a serious boost. Which calls for a very hungry girl! I feel like I am always hungry but I am not craving as much of the bad stuff as before.

In addition to lots of water and exercise I have been eating a lot more vegetables. I have always eaten a lot of fruit but vegetables have never been my thing. I went to the store and bought squash, zucchini, lettuce and tomatoes. Adding these items as my side dish  has allowed me not to eat as much of my main dish as I normally would. Plus it adds some color to the plate :)

I have been going to the gym every night with Brady and have been staying faithful to a workout routine that I have found on line. I have also been running 2 miles every night to get my legs back into shape. I want to work my way back up to 5 miles but I know that will take some time. I am going to create a second blog for myself that tracks my work out routines so that I can keep up with what I have done and the progress that I am making. Once I get that up I will add it to this blog so if you would like to follow along you can.

Quick Recipe------>
Tacos are fun and easy to make. Regular tacos can be so greasy and messy but this recipe allows you to still eat those yummy tacos but in a healthier way so when you get up from the table you do not feel disgusting while asking your self " Why did I just eat that?". I prefer a soft taco over a hard taco so this recipe will include just that.

Healthy Tacos:
Serves 4
1 pound lean ground turkey
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 Tabasco sauce
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
4 whole-wheat tortillas

Toppings Include:
romaine lettuce
shredded reduced cheese (2%)
healthy sour cream = 1 cup nonfat Greek yogurt mixed with 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions:
1. Spray a nonstick skillet with cooking spray and put over medium heat. Crumble the ground turkey into pan. Add the next 8 ingredients and cook, stirring and breaking up the meat with a spatula, until that meat is browned. Set aside
2. Wrap the tortillas in a towel and heat in the microwave for 15 to 30 seconds.
3. Serve.

Hope you enjoy! I know we did!!

Summer Read Number 2 Done...

on to Summer Read 3 :)

I just finished Something Borrowed and it was very good. Emily Giffin never lets me down. Her books are always great from beginning to end. In this particular book I was so surprised by the ending! I do not want to give to much away just in case someone reading has not read the book yet.

The store is told of a young attorney, Rachel, who has always been the "good girl" who has never found true love and feels like she never will. Darcy is Rachel's best friend who always gets everything that she was and has the so called "perfect life". The story starts off with Darcy throwing Rachel a birthday party and Rachel ends up going home with her Darcy's fiance Dexter. Through the book it goes through the choices that each person has to make and in the end each has to choose which path that they want to take.

Such a great book!!
The next book on my list, which I just bought on my Kindle, is Uncharted Territori. I love, love, love Tori Spelling and her adorable family so I can not wait to start reading!!

Healthy Wife, Healthy Life

Here it is!! My first "Healthy Wife, Healthy Life" post!! I have noticed a couple of bloggers that keep track of their goals on their blog and thought why not have my own goals to a healthier lifestyle on my blog as well. I decided to start this series of blogs to track my journey to a healthier life style, home and body. I feel like sharing it so that it will hold me somewhat accountable.

Since the wedding I have not been keeping up with the exercise and healthy eating that I was doing the months before. My clothes are getting a little uncomfortable and my energy level has gone down, which is my biggest concern. So it is time to stop just talking about it and actually do it.

My fitness & diet goals:
1. Sign up at a new gym. Since graduation I have not been able to visit a gym regularly since I am no longer a member, so it is time to sign up for a membership somewhere else. There is only one gym in town that has everything you need including great workout classes. So tomorrow afternoon when hubby is off of work we will head up to the gym and sign me up.
2. Cut back on the sweet intake. I have a huge sweet tooth!! The more I travel the more I indulge in the things that I normally would not eat at home and when I do that my brain is in routine to have that yummy treat after a meal. So this definitely needs to stop.
3. Be better at preparing healthy meals at home for the both of us. This will be the hardest one for me. It is so easy for me to pick something up on the way home or put in a pizza in the oven but this is unhealthy.
4. Drink plenty of water! This is the most important and probably the easiest to do. All i need is 64 oz per day. It sounds easy but it seems like I am never thirsty. I could honestly go all day without drinking one thing! Weird I know. So my solution to this is to buy a big water bottle that I can refill through out the day. They water bottle that I have in front of me now is 33.8 oz so if I drink two of those I am good to go!
5. Run. I remember the days when I enjoyed to run. But that just is not the case anymore. I don't know if I could even run a mile. So slow but sure I am going to get this habit back :)

This is not going to be easy with our busy schedules but I have to make it work. I will have more to tell you on next Wednesday's "Healthy Wife, Healthy Life" post.

Until then, here is to a healthy week!

Weekend Recap..

this weekend of course went as fast as all of the others but managed to get some things accomplished and have some fun.
Friday night we all went to see Eclipse. I never want to be that person who jumps on the bandwagon so I was very hesitate to watch the Twilight series. But a couple of months back Brady and I took a long road trip and needed some movies to watch in the back seat so we picked up both of the first movies in the series and we really enjoyed them. So we were pretty excited to see the new one. I honestly think that Eclipse was the best one so far. In this one Bella once again finds herself in danger of the vampires and in the midst of all of that she is also in the middle of love games with Edward and Jacob. She is forced to choose between the two.

Saturday was filled with organizing and cleaning, which will come with another blog (I came up with some really great ideas on how to organize and want to share with everyone reading). That night with nothing better to do we went to another movie, Knight and Day. This movie is with none other than Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise. June Havens, played by Diaz, finds that her simple everyday life is tangled with a secret agent, Cruise. It was an action packed movie that works because of Diaz and Cruise.

Sunday was my favorite day of them all. Brady and I attended our normal church service and then headed off to take our one year anniversary photos, once those are ready I will post them on here!! Then we had lunch with his parents, brisket ummm :)

So there you have it, my weekend in a nut shell. Hope that everyone had a fabulous weekend.

Then and Now...

In April of last year I posted this picture of our house that we bought and closed on in the middle of April. It was a cute house but needed some work. We have done some major renovations to the inside to make it feel more like home to us. The front is my favorite change. I love flowers and I love wreaths so I was excited to spruce things up.
So this is before...
And this is now
Added a cute little door hanger...
Some fresh flowers..

A bench...
And wa-la...
We just had a new garage door installed so I will have pictures posted soon of the new door.

Slow Cooker Lasagna.

Today when we get home from work we will go home to the sweet aroma of lasagna. This afternoon I ran home and prepared everything to add to the slow cooker so that when we got home tonight I would not have to do much but make some veggies and spoon everything out on a plate to serve. These are my favorite recipes because I HATE to go home from a long day at work and start dinner. This way everything is ready to go when you get home :)

Here is the recipe, I haven't ever used this recipe before but how can you go wrong with cheese and noodles?

Slow Cooker Lasagna Recipe
Yield: 6-8 servings Prep: 25 min. Cook: 4-5 hours

Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 can (29 ounces) tomato sauce - I used a little less
1 cup water
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 package ( 8 ounces) no-cook lasagna noodles
4 cups (16 ounces) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1-1/2 cups (12 ounces) cottage cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions:
In a skillet, cook beef and garlic over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Add the tomato sauce, water, tomato paste, salt and oregano; mix well.

Spread a fourth of the meat sauce in an ungreased slow cooker. Arrange a third of the noodles over sauce (break the noodles if necessary). Combine the cheeses; spoon a third of the mixture over noodles. Repeat layers twice. Top with remaining meat sauce.

Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or until noodles are tender.

I love my new bling!

I have been looking at buying a new watch and I finally found one that I really liked. It is a Micheal Kors silver watch. I took a picture and of course had to add my ring in there :)

I need to make a blog post a week of my new findings!! I love, love, love to shop!! If that was my job I would be in heaven every day :) But for now I will just do it for fun.

Bon Voyage...

Yesterday we said bye to Tucker and Justin for one month. They were given the opportunity to study abroad a Queen Mary's University of London until August 8Th. They have several breaks in between their studies and have already booked several different trip to Paris and Rome. I made them a blog called "Our European Adventures" and can follow them on tuckerandmorath.blogspot.com. I am so excited for them as this will be a journey of a lifetime.
Lauren and I made them a little bag of goodies so that their 10 hour plane ride would not be so bad. We filled it full of magazines, games and gum to chew on so the landing was not too hard on their ears. We took a picture of the group as we said good bye...
They are going to have so much fun and will remember this trip for ever.

New Washer & Drier...

Brady and I just bought our first brand new set of washer and driers. We bought the Samsung Steam Wash. The steam machine was a little bit more expensive but this is something that we will have for years and years to come. The steam clean is supposed to help get out those stubborn stains and extend the life of your clothes which is always a plus!! There is also a new technology called Diamond Drum which replaces the old typical washing drum with one that has smaller depressions so that your clothes do not snag. And the new items use less water, which was the husbands favorite part!

I have loved using them and now I just need to organize the laundry room! Which will be my next project.

Diploma Framed..Check

I received my diploma in the mail a couple of weeks ago and sent it straight to Gallery A Custom Framing which is my good friend Taryn's business. She always does such a great job on my frames. Here is a picture of my diploma which is now hanging in my office :)

she even added this cute comment to that back... isn't she the sweetest!?!

fireworks with friends.

Last Saturday was a perfect night to celebrate the 4th of July with some fireworks with friends. I always say the 4th of July is more fun for the guys because they love to blow everything up with fireworks. This year was no different then every other year that we have all been together. The boys blew everything up from coke cans to buckets and had so much fun doing it.

If by any chance you didnt get to see fireworks, here are some pictures for you.

Another Fun Filled Weekend.

Today my friend Tucker and I are heading off to Dallas around 2 o'clock to pick up Lauren "Chef Lane" from the airport and then head to Tuckers bridal portraits! I am so excited to be able to experience this with her since she was my little helper for my bridal portraits! I pray that it isn't to hott for her today, I know how sweaty you get in the wedding dress, so please weather be nice to her!! I can't wait to post pictures, she is going to be a beautiful bride!!
this is the adorable couple here.

Once we leave the portraits it is off to Houston to stay for the weekend. Tucker's mom lives there and we are going to spend some time with her. We do not have many plans but to relax by the pool and do some shopping!! Which will be my kind of weekend :)

Well I hope that everyone has a wonderful end of the week! Be back soon!!

Birthday Weekend & Father's Day

This weekend was a fun filled weekend that was all about the boys!
On  Saturday night, after Brady got off work, we headed to Grapevine to stay at the Gaylord Texan Hotel.
We have been to the Gaylord several times for events that they have held in their atrium but we had never stayed. So we booked a room and it was lovely. We had an atrium view room so that we could see the whole inside area of the hotel. In the atrium there is a beautiful garden of flowers with different shops to go look in. Each time we go the Gaylord they have a different theme. This weekend the theme was Alice in Wonderland.

this would be me making fun of Brady's "model pose"

The next day, after breakfast, we went to the lovely Bass Pro Shop to get Brady's birthday present from me. Since he is an avid hunter haha all he wanted for his birthday was a gun case, and so that is what I got him. He is pretty easy to buy for. After we left Bass Pro we headed to Texas De Brazil. Brady had been begging to go since I went with the girls and showed him all of the pictures. So Steve and D'Lynn (Brady's parents) met us at the restaurant and we had a nice lunch. (Brady LOVED it!!) Once we left lunch we then went to another lovely place called Cabelas, needless to say I was worn our from all of the "hunt" shopping. At Cabelas we picked up another present for Brady from his dad which was a new gun safe, which was a much needed gift!

He is so spoiled!! :)

That night we had my dad over and since it was such a nice night we sat on the patio.
This weekend was a success!!

June 17th...

This is Brady's birthday cake..
It was a strawberry cheesecake ice cream cake with graham cracker crust!! Neither one of us like regular birthday day cake so we normally always get cookie cakes. But this year I decided to go to Maggie Moos and get an ice cream cake and mmmm mmm was it good! Earlier today we were looking for our next excuse to buy an ice cream cake and we came up with the Fourth of July!!! We can get a patriotic ice cream cake!! :)

Cruise Booked, Check!

Since our big 1 year wedding anniversary is coming up, what better excuse to go on another cruise!! Brady and I had so much fun on our honeymoon cruise that we decided to have a re-do and book another one. This time around we have decided to go on another 7 day cruise which parts from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida and goes to Nassau, Bahamas St. Thomas and St. Maarten. The ship that we are going on is called the Dream and it is their newest ship with the Carnival Cruise Line. It is the largest Carnival ship ever constructed and debuted on September 21 2009 (so it will almost be a year old when we go). This ship holds 3,646 passengers!!! Can you believe that?!? I pray it is not completely booked!!

The only bummer about the trip is the fact that it is not until September. So for our actual anniversary I really wanted to plan something that we have never done before. I have been thinking about a couple of things to do but the one thing that keeps popping up in my mind is going on a hot air balloon ride. I feel like it would be an unforgettable experience with my husband for our anniversary.

Married Life..

this is a video that was posted on YouTube as,life as a married couple, and I thought that it was hilarious!! It might just be me but I could not stop laughing.

Happy Happy Birthday...

to my wonderful husband Brady Lane!! I love you baby

Hurricane Harbor

this weekend Brady and I decided to take a trip down to Arlington to have some fun at Hurricane Harbor. I could have done without all of the people and the lines but other than that it was a lot of fun! Like I always say it is nice just to get away :)

Girls & Bubbles..

My favorite baby girls (not babies anymore) had so much fun playing in the backyard with bottles of bubbles the other night.
Avery and Aidan

These little girls are so dear to my heart because they were the flower girls in our wedding! We have a play date with them at least once a month. They definitely grow up WAY too fast!

How Could I Have Forgotten..

my sweet best friend Lauren (chef Lane) sent me this cookie bouquet of chocolate chip cookies for one of my many graduation gifts from her. This was such a delicious gift :)

Heart of the Matter...

this book is definitely a good one....

Emily Giffin is one of my favorite authors. Her stories make me feel like I am in the scene, that the person she is talking about is someone I know. Heart of the Matter is a book about 2 women, Tessa Russo and Valerie Anderson, both women are mothers to small children. Other than what they share as mothers the two women have very little in common. Every other chapter is a perfect description of life in their eyes. Emily Giffin creates a story of these two women, both good people, caught in circumstances that test them in ways they never thought possible. Each having to question everything that they once believed and each discovering what truly matters most.

Emily Giffin has 5 books out now. Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Baby Proof, Love the One You're With and the latest is Heart of the Matter

In 2009 2S Films teamed up to produce Something Borrowed and Something Blue. Something Borrowed is shooting now with a fantastic cast that includes: Kate Hudson (my favorite) and Collin Farrell. I am soo soo excited. Both of these books were published in 2006 and I have not read either one of them.

So next on my list of summer reads is Something Borrowed and Something Blue.

Magic In A Bottle

I absolutely, positively, with out a doubt hate to iron more than anyone that I know! When looking through my closet if I see that it is wrinkled I will just skip right over it which leaves me with several pieces of clothing that I just don't wear. So while walking down the aisle of Walmart I saw this handy little travel bottle of Downy Wrinkle Releaser (I am sure that this is old to most of you but I have never used it before).

Well folks this little product succeeded my expectations! Just spray, tug, and smooth the wrinkles and wa-la they are gone! No iron needed!! And that's my kind of product, magic in a bottle!!!

New Shades..

I had to buy some new sunglasses. Unfortunately while floating down the river half of the group flipped their tubes and I just so happened to be in that half that flipped. It was kind of scary and at the time I wasn't thinking of saving anything but my life!! Once I jumped back on the tube I realized that I no longer had my sunglasses on. So I lost my sunglasses which sucked because we were only 2 hours into the ride and I now had nothing to cover my eyes from the sun and not to mention that these sunglasses were only a couple of months old. Why I brought my expensive pair of sunglasses to float the river I will never know but, good news is I bought a new pair. Hey, I couldn't go without sunglasses for too long! I went up to Dillards to look for some reasonably priced sunglasses and found these cute Jessica Simpson glasses...

This little man...

was soo excited to see his mommy and daddy yesterday night when we got home!! He had soo much fun at his grandparents house (Brady's parents) that he didn't think about us too too much but when Sunday night rolled around and into Monday he started getting pretty worried that we left him forever! 4 days gone from us is a long time for our sweet little boy!! As soon as we got home they came to drop him off and he was soooo excited to see us!! He gave me soo many kisses! Now he is connected to my side and does not want to leave it in fear that we will leave again.

We are so attached to this sweet little boy and can only imagine how hard it is going to be when we have to leave our kids for a few days. But they will have plenty of people that will love them and take good care of them! We are so blessed!!

Monday in Arizona

Monday was our last day in Arizona. Brady, Lauren and I slept in and then woke up and cleaned up Laurens apartment. After having 6 people in an apartment all weekend you can only imagine how messy it was and it was the least we could do after all that she did for us this weekend. Once the apartment was clean we left to run some last minute errands. Then went to Baja Fresh for lunch. This place was soo good (I bet you all are getting tired of me talking about food, but I just love food) it was the first time we had ever been. At Baja Fresh all of their ingredients are fresh with no microwaves, no freezers, no lard and no M.S.G.

Our next stop was the Arizona Biltmore! I have no words to explain how amazing this place was and to top it off this is where Lauren works as a pastry chief. The Biltmore was built in 1929 as one of Phoenix's first resort. The Biltmore has had every president since Hoover stay at the hotel and J.F Kennedy stayed at this resort on his honeymoon night. Just that alone is impressive but the Biltmore has celebrities filtering in and out of the doors all of the time and Lauren makes desserts for all of these people!!!! I am soo proud of her. She has soo many more ideas up her sleeve, I can't wait to experience it all with her.

Well that ended our stay in Arizona. It was soo much fun and I loved being around my favorite people all weekend. I defiantly did not want the trip to end and was sad to leave Lauren. But I will see her in 2 weeks when we head to Houston to visit Tuckers mom. I can not wait!

Sunday in Arizona

Sunday was our day to paint pottery! We went to a place called As You Wish. It is soo much fun! If you have never been to paint pottery I suggest that you put that on your list of things to do! It is for all ages. How it works is you pick a piece of pottery from the shelves of things that you can paint. On the shelves there is everything from picture frames, coffee mugs, bowls, vases and pottery animals. As soon as you pick the piece you would like to paint you design, decorate and doodle on your pottery as you wish! Once you have everything painted you turn it into the front and in just a few days the piece will be glazed, fired and ready to pick up.

Everyone decided to paint a piece except for Gilbert. Tucker picked out some cool looking coasters for their new house, Lauren painted a flower vase, Brady did a coffee mug, Justin painted a bowl and I also did a bowl for our kitchen.
this is us with our pottery all painted

That night we had to take Lauren and Justin to the airport which was sad because I was not ready for them to leave and plus them leaving made it closer to the time when we had to leave. We arrived at the airport a little earlier and so we goofed around in the airport! It was soo much fun and left us with several different memories to laugh at for years to come! Once they checked in their luggage they still had about 30 minutes left until they were boarding so we sat down and played some Skip Bo. We all love to play games!
